BeachDig Directors and Head Coaches

Tina Kinkead - San Diego Director and Head Coach

Coach Tina KinkeadCoach Tina joins BeachDig in 2016 as San Diego's new Director/Head Coach. Tina has dedicated most of her life to volleyball as both a player and coach. Her coaching career spans 24 years, and she has experience at all levels, from grade school, to high school, club, and college. At the college level, Tina began her career as the head coach of the men's volleyball program at her alma mater, Santa Clara University. From there, she went on to serve as the assistant for the women's programs at both Creighton University (Division I) and Point Loma Nazarene University (NAIA).

Tina has a tremendous amount of experience coaching high school volleyball in San Diego as well. She has either head coached or assisted at the following high school programs: The Bishop's School (where she is currently the assistant Varsity coach and head Junior Varsity coach), La Jolla High School, Cathedral Catholic, and Vista High School. Her varsity teams have made it to the CIF San Diego section semifinals at least 9 out of the last 11 years. In addition to team success, Tina has been instrumental in helping numerous players achieve college scholarships and opportunities to further their playing careers while pursuing higher education.

Tina has also coached at the club level in Southern California for over 20 years. She got her start in club volleyball when she started and managed her own club in the High Desert area of San Bernardino County. Tina pioneered club volleyball in this region, which has grown tremendously in recent years. Tina has also coached club volleyball for many years in the San Diego area.

As a player, Tina received a full scholarship to play Division I volleyball at Santa Clara University after having been named the Arizona state female "Athlete of the Year.” At Santa Clara, her team won the West Coast Conference and played in the NCAA Tournament. After college, she continued competitive volleyball on the beach. She earned her AAA rating several times by winning many CBVA tournaments. She also competed in the AVP for a few years.

Tina has a passion for volleyball, but her love for the game is fueled by her desire to work with children to become better players and stronger, more confident children. Tina's coaching philosophy can be described as follows: as a coach, her goal is to teach her players to be confident and to enjoy striving to become better players and people; she wants to share her love and passion for the sport in hopes of showing them what volleyball has to offer. The benefits of volleyball go well beyond the court; they extend to lifelong lessons.
