Our Future Beach Volleyball Stars
|
It appears that Beach Volleyball is here to stay! If the inaugural season of Club Beach Dig is any indication, the future of Beach Volleyball in Florida couldn’t be brighter! Club Beach Dig has been created to fill the ever-increasing demand of juniors wanting to learn and play the sport of Beach Volleyball. Over the past 2 years, I have watched my business of coaching beach volleyball to both children and adults grow beyond my wildest expectations. There was no place to go but up!!! With just two weeks of practice and one tournament under our belts, our enrollment is already more than double what we projected! We have new members joining weekly and the club has already grown to almost 100 members. Club Beach Dig hosts divisions in Miami, Deerfield Beach and Palm Beach with hopes to expand state wide next summer! |
Outdoor Gems: Deerfield Beach - Volleyball Magazine

Volleyball’s first in a series on beach hotspots features this Florida coastal city where you can always find a game. Cindy Phillips (second from right) runs beach volleyball camps in her hometown of Deerfield Beach, Florida. On Florida’s southeast coast, nestled between the more working class Pompano Beach and the upscale Boca Raton, lies Deerfield Beach. A city of 66,000-plus, Deerfield Beach is also one of the hottest spots in Florida for beach volleyball. The city maintains six sand courts on the beach, and it’s pretty easy to find a game virtually from sunrise to sunset. |

She has since played a couple of AVP qualifiers, but her biggest impact may come as a coach. On May 1, she started Club Beach Dig, a volleyball program that is unique in Florida. "In California, there are beach volleyball programs on every corner," Phillips said. "But nobody else in Florida is coaching the beach game full-time." What Phillips has started is no doubt important to the AVP Tour, which has two stops in Florida — Miami to open the season and Tampa this week. Phillips already has three programs in South Florida: Indian Hammocks Park in Miami, Deerfield Beach (near Fort Lauderdale) and Singer Island in Palm Beach County. She also hopes to start more programs on the state's West Coast next year, including in Clearwater and Fort Myers. So far, the response has been great. |
