Karch Kiraly was born November 3rd, 1960.  That would make him…47!  He is the oldest player to reach the highest level of volleyball.  He is the only player in volleyball history to win Olympic gold medals is both indoor and beach volleyball.  He has played in over and won more tournaments than any player to ever play on the AVP tour.  He’s won over 148 tournaments and over 3 million dollars in game winnings! Karch IS THE MAN!

While adhering to his active schedule, taking care of his family and high athletic status he made time for an interview with our Club Beach Dig director, Coach Cindy and to come and talk to our club.  He talked to us about his achievements and his love for the game of beach volleyball.  He then thanked Coach Cindy for giving us a chance to compete on the beach and mentioned that our age set is the best time to play the game, because this is where we find our own.  After a few brief words he began to sign autographs and take pictures. Then went on the next day to win 2nd at the AVP Esurance Tampa open.

Coach Cindy, Karch and I took a picture that means so much to me because I want to achieve the same levels that they both have reached.  He also signed an autograph stating,” Don’t Stop Now”. Although he may have signed that to 4 or 5 other kids or even with the thought of how many times he’s said that over the coarse of his 28+ seasons, that autograph meant more to me than anything any coach or parent has said to me.  I haven’t quit yet nor do I plan to but that autograph not only inspired me that night but it will inspire me every time I look at it to keep my head up and work hard for my dreams.  Being apart of Club Beach Dig means a lot to me already but the chance to meet and hear him is another great experience to add to this season.
